Ryan Schimpf of the San Diego Padres was selected the National League Rookie of the Month for July 2016. During the month the second baseman hit 21 for 78, .269/.387/.705 with 5 2B, 1 3B, 9 HR, 17 RBI, 17 R, 1 SB and 14 BB in 24 games. This season he is hitting .225/.352/.558 with 9 HR, 20 RBI, 23 R, 1 SB in 40 games. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the fifth round in 2009. Schimpf turned 28 on April 11.
