Hunter Pence traded to Giants

Hunter Pence was traded by the Philadelphia Phillies to the San Francisco Giants on July 31, 2012 along with cash. In exchange the Phillies received Nate Schierholtz, Tommy Joseph and Seth Rosin.


Pence is an outfielder in his sixth MLB season playing for the Phillies and Astros. In 2012 he was hitting .271/.336/.447 with 17 HR, 59 RBI, 59 R, 4 SB in 101 games with Philadelphia. For his MLB career he has hit .290/.342/.481 with 131 HR, 471 RBI, 447 R, 66 SB in 835 games. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in the second round in 2004. Pence turned 29 on April 13.


Schierholtz is an outfielder in his sixth MLB season all with the Giants. In 2012 he was hitting .257/.327/.429 with 5 HR, 17 RBI, 15 R, 3 SB in 77 games with San Francisco. For his MLB career he has hit .270/.319/.412 with 23 HR, 119 RBI, 145 R, 20 SB in 503 games. He was originally drafted by the Giants in the second round in 2003. Schierholtz turned 28 on February 15.


Joseph is a C\1B was was playing with the Giants Double A team in Richmond, In 2012 he was hitting .260/.313/.391 with 8 HR, 38 RBI, 32 R, 0 SB in 80 games with Richmond. He was originally drafted by the Giants in the second round in 2009. Joseph turned 21 on July 16.


RHP Rosin was pitching with the Giants Class A Advanced team in San Jose. In 2012 he was 2-1 with a 4.31 ERA, 68 K, 1.19 WHIP, 10 SV in 56.1 IP over 34 games with San Jose. He was originally drafted by the Giants in the fourth round in 2010. Rosin will be 24 on November 2nd.
