Gaby Sanchez traded to Pirates

Gaby Sanchez was traded by the Miami Marlins to the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 31, 2012 along with Kyle Kaminska. In exchange the Marlins received Gorkys Hernandez and a draft pick.


Sanchez is a first baseman in his fifth MLB season all with the Marlins. He had split 2012 between Triple A New Orleans and the Marlins. He hit .302/.431/.491 with 5 HR, 18 RBI, 20 R, 2 SB in 34 games with New Orleans and hit .200/.251/.303 with 3 HR, 17 RBI, 12 R, 1 SB in 56 games with Miami. For his MLB career he has hit .260/.334/.421 with 43 HR, 184 RBI, 158 R, 9 SB in 392 games. He was originally drafted by the Marlins in the fourth round in 2005. Sanchez will be 29 on September 2nd.


RHP Kaminska had split 2012 pitching for the Marlins Double A team in Jacksonville and Triple A team in New Orleans. He was 6-3 with a 5.11 ERA, 42 K, 1.60 WHIP, 1 SV in 49.1 IP over 31 games with Jacksonville and was 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA, 2 K, 1.15 WHIP in 4.1 IP over 2 games with New Orleans. He was originally drafted by the Marlins in the 25th round in 2007. Kaminska will be 24 on October 5th.


Hernandez is an outfielder who had split 2012 between Triple A Indianapolis and the Pirates. He had hit .257/.353/.346 with 2 HR, 25 RBI, 43 R, 13 SB in 67 games with Indianapolis and hit .080/.148/.080 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB in 26 games with Pittsburgh. He originally signed with the Tigers as an amateur free agent in 2005 out of Venezuela. Hernandez will be 25 on September 7th.
