Drew Hutchison traded to Pirates

Drew Hutchison was traded by the Toronto Blue Jays to the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 1, 2016. The Blue Jays in exchange received Francisco Liriano, Harold Ramirez and Reese McGuire.

RHP Hutchison had split 2016 between Triple A Buffalo and the Blue Jays. He was 6-5, 3.26 ERA, 110 K, 1.11 WHIP, .210 BAA in 102.0 IP over 18 games at Buffalo and 1-0, 4.97 ERA, 12 K, 1.34 WHIP, .271 BAA in 12.2 IP over 3 games with 2 GS with the Blue Jays. Over four MLB seasons with the 30-21, 4.92 ERA, 374 K, 1.36 WHIP, .267 BAA in 406.1 IP over 76 games with 73 GS. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 15th round in 2009. Hutchison will be 26 on August 22.

LHP Liriano was 6-11, 5.46 ERA, 116 K, 1.62 WHIP, .264 BAA in 113.2 IP over 21 games with the Pirates in 2016. Over 11 MLB seasons with the Pirates, White Sox and Twins he was 94-90, 4.09 ERA, 1505 K, 1.34 WHIP, .240 BAA, 1 SV in 1463.2 IP over 275 games with 248 GS. He originally signed with the Giants in 2000 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Liriano will be 33 on October 26.

Ramirez is an outfielder who hit .306/.354/.401 with 2 HR, 49 RBI, 58 R, 7 SB in 98 games at Double A Altoona in 2016. He originally signed with the Pirates in 2011 as an amateur free agent out of Columbia. Ramirez will be 22 on September 6th.

McGuire is a catcher who hit .259/.337/.346 with 1 HR, 37 RBI, 29 R, 4 SB in 77 games at Altoona in 2016. His minor league caught stealing rate is 40%. He was originally drafted by the Pirates with the 14th pick of the first round in 2013. McGuire turned 21 on March 2nd.
