Alex Gonzalez traded to Tigers

Alex Gonzalez was traded by the Baltimore Orioles to the Detroit Tigers on March 24, 2014. In exchange the Orioles received Steve Lombardozzi.

Gonzalez is a shortstop with 15 seasons MLB experience playing with the Marlins, Red Sox, Reds, Blue Jays, Braves and Brewers. In 2013 he hit .177/.203/.230 with 1 HR, 8 RBI, 14 R, 0 SB in 41 games with the Brewers. He signed a minor league contract with the Orioles in January 2014. For his MLB career he has hit .246/.290/.396 with 157 HR, 688 RBI, 663 R, 30 SB in 1600 games. He originally signed with the Marlins in 1994 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Gonzalez turned 37 on February 15.

Lombardozzi is a 2B\OF with three seasons MLB experience playing with the Nationals. In 2013 he hit .259/.278/.338 with 2 HR, 22 RBI, 25 R, 4 SB in 118 games with the Nationals. He was traded to the Tigers in December 2013. For his MLB career he has hit .264/.297/.342 with 5 HR, 50 RBI, 68 R, 9 SB in 257 games. He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the 19th round in 2008. Lombardozzi will be 26 on September 20.
