Here is my week sixth installment of College Spotlight for 2014. This week I am looking at Louie Lechich of San Diego and A.J Reed of Kentucky. Both are dual threats that pitch and play another position.
Lechich is a senior OF/LHP out of St Mary's High School in Stockton, CA. He was the winning pitcher Sunday to help halt a losing streak as his Toreros won 8-1 over Loyola Marymount. His line for the game was 8.1 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K. This season he is 5-1, 2.06 ERA, 24 K, 1.25 WHIP in 39.1 IP over 6 games. He is also hitting .380/.438/.610 with 4 HR, 24 RBI, 21 R, 2 SB in 23 games. Last season as a junior he was 3-3, 3.24 ERA, 35 K, 1.40 WHIP in 50.0 IP over 16 games and hit .265/.346/.376 with 1 HR, 25 RBI, 31 R, 1 SB in 57 games.
Reed is a junior 1B/LHP out of Terre Haute South High School in Terre Haute, IN. He started the weekend picking up the win against then number one ranked South Carolina as the Wildcats took two out of three. In the 13-5 victory his line was 8.0 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K in 117 pitches. This season he is 4-1, 2.20 ERA, 22 K, 1.07 WHIP in 41.0 IP over 6 games. He is also hitting .378/.527/.793 with 9 HR, 32 RBI, 29 R, 0 SB in 24 games. Last season as a sophomore he was 2-8, 4.04 ERA, 52 K, 1.40 WHIP in 82.1 IP over 14 games and hit .280/.378/.519 with 13 HR, 52 RBI, 30 R, 1 SB in 55 games.
