The Miami Marlins expressed displeasure in the line up used by the Boston Red Sox in the Grapefruit League game on March 6, 2014. The Marlins had charged a premium ticket price for their fan to watch the game against the defending World Series champs. The Marlins were upset that the Red Sox sent out a team with only two players with MLB experience. Those two players had minimal experience as Jackie Bradley Jr has only 95 MLB at bats and Ryan Lavarnway has only 269 MLB at bats to his credit.
Yet for all their griping the Marlins only managed a 0-0 tie in a seven inning rain shortened game. The Marlins were out hit seven hits to two with Bradley and Lavarnway collecting one each and the minor league representatives getting the other five. The Marlins hits came from their superstar Giancarlo Stanton and Marcel Ozuna who only has 275 MLB at bats himself. The moral of this story is the Marlins need to worry more about player development rather than ticket prices and PR situations.
