Starling Marte Contract Extension with Pirates
Starling Marte and the Pittsburgh Pirates agreed to terms of a six year contract extension for $31 million on March 27, 2013. The outfielder has two seasons MLB experience playing with the Pirates. In 2013 he hit .280/.343/.441 with 12 HR, 35 RBI, 83 R, 41 SB in 135 games. For his MLB career he has hit .275/.332/.440 with 17 HR, 52 RBI, 101 R, 53 SB in 182 games. During spring training this year he has hit .356/.396/.533 with 2 HR, 7 RBI, 10 R, 3 SB in 14 games. He originally signed with the Pirates in 2007 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Marte turned 25 on October 9th.
