Fernando Abad traded to Red Sox

Fernando Abad was traded by the Minnesota Twins to the Boston Red Sox on August 1st, 2016. The Twins in exchange received Pat Light.

LHP Abad was 1-4, 2.65 ERA, 29 K, 1.21 WHIP, .220 BAA, 1 SV in 34.0 IP over 39 games with the Twins in 2016. Over seven MLB seasons with the Twins, Athletics, Nationals and Astros he was 6-24, 3.58 ERA, 222 K, 1.29 WHIP, 1 SV in 261.1 IP over 297 games with 6 GS. He originally signed with the Astros in 2002 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Abad turned 30 on December 17.

RHP Light had split 2016 between Triple A Pawtucket and the Red Sox. He was 1-1, 2.32 ERA, 36 K, 1.23 WHIP, .188 BAA, 7 SV in 31.0 IP over 25 games at Pawtucket and 0-0, 23.63 ERA, 2 K, 3.00 WHIP, .438 BAA in 2.2 IP over 2 games with the Red Sox. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox with the 37th pick of the first round in 2012. Light turned 25 on March 29.
