2013 AL All Star Reserves

Here are the American League reserves for the 2013 All Star game:

Catcher Jason Castro of the Houston Astros is in his first All Star game. Prior to the All Star break he hit .269/.331/.475 with 12 HR, 31 RBI, 40 R, 2 SB in 81 games. For his three season MLB career he has hit .248/.321/.401 with 20 HR, 68 RBI, 95 R, 2 SB in 235 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros with the 10th pick of the first round in 2008.

Catcher Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals is in his first All Star game. Prior to the All Star break he hit .284/.314/.396 with 4 HR, 38 RBI, 25 R, 0 SB in 77 games. For his three season MLB career he has hit .301/.329/.442 with 18 HR, 98 RBI, 83 R, 0 SB in 192 games. He originally signed with the Royals as an amateur free agent in 2006 out of Venezuela.

First baseman Prince Fielder of the Detroit Tigers is in his fifth All Star game. Prior to the All Star break he hit .267/.363/.457 with 16 HR, 69 RBI, 48 R, 1 SB in 94 games. For his nine season MLB career he has hit .285/.390/.532 with 276 HR, 833 RBI, 702 R, 18SB in 1254 games. He was originally drafted by the Brewers with the seventh pick of the first round in 2002.

Second baseman Jason Kipnis of the Cleveland Indians is in his first All Star game. Prior to the All Star break he hit .301/.383/.514 with 13 HR, 57 RBI, 53 R, 21 SB in 84 games. For his three season MLB career he has hit .272/.350/.437 with 34 HR, 152 RBI, 163 R, 57 SB in 272 games. He was originally drafted by the Indians in the second round in 2009.

Second baseman Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox is in his fourth All Star game. Prior to the All Star break he hit .316/.396/.436 with 6 HR, 56 RBI, 57 R, 13 SB in 96 games. For his eight season MLB career he has hit .304/.372/.459 with 96 HR, 465 RBI, 617 R, 115 SB in 952 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the second round in 2004.

Second baseman Ben Zobrist of the Tampa Bay Rays is in his second All Star game. Prior to the All Star break he hit .260/.347/.383 with 6 HR, 48 RBI, 47 R, 6 SB in 92 games. For his eight season MLB career he has hit .260/.353/.435 with 98 HR, 436 RBI, 452 R, 87 SB in 853 games. He was originally drafted by the Astros in the sixth round in 2004.

Shortstop Jhonny Peralta of the Detroit Tigers is in his second All Star game. Prior to the All Star break he hit .303/.361/.447 with 8 HR, 46 RBI, 40 R, 3 SB in 89 games. For his 11 season MLB career he has hit .267/.330/.424 with 153 HR, 689 RBI, 666 R, 13 SB in 1365 games. He originally signed with the Indians as an amateur free agent in 1999 out of the Dominican Republic.

Third baseman Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles is in his first All Star game. Prior to the All Star break he hit .310/.337/.470 with 7 HR, 45 RBI, 57 R, 6 SB in 96 games. For his two season MLB career he has hit .295/.323/.462 with 14 HR, 71 RBI, 81 R, 8 SB in 147 games. He was originally drafted by the Orioles with the third pick of the first round in 2010.

Outfielder Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers is in his second All Star game. Prior to the All Star break he hit .277/.334/.517 with 22 HR, 69 RBI, 42 R, 5 SB in 92 games. For his nine season MLB career he has hit .269/.328/.496 with 152 HR, 482 RBI, 397 R, 65 SB in 787 game. He originally signed with the Mets as an amateur free agent in 1998 out of the Dominican Republic.

Outfielder Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals is in his first All Star game. Prior to the All Star break he hit .283/.355/.417 with 9 HR, 49 RBI, 48 R, 5 SB in 89 games. For his seven season MLB career he has hit .271/.349/.436 with 91 HR, 369 RBI, 436 R, 61 SB in 809 games. He was originally drafted by the Royals with the second pick of the first round in 2005.

Outfielder Torii Hunter of the Detroit Tigers is in his fifth All Star game. Prior to the All Star break he hit .315/.352/.458 with  HR, 44 RBI, 56 R, 2 SB in 84 games. For his 17 season MLB career he has hit .278/.336/.466 with 304 HR, 1187 RBI, 1124 R, 188 SB in 2031 games. He was originally drafted by the Twins with the 20th pick of the first round in 1993.


 DH Edwin Encarnacion of the Toronto Blue Jays is in his first All Star game. Prior to the All Star break he hit .264/.353/.532 with 25 HR, 72 RBI, 60 R, 4 SB in 91 games. For his nine season MLB career he has hit .264/.345/.476 with 184 HR, 574 RBI, 531 R, 46 SB in 1028 games. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the ninth round in 2000.
