Russ Canzler traded to Pirates

Russ Canzler was traded by the Baltimore Orioles to the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 12, 2013. In exchange the Orioles received Tim Alderson.

Canzler is an OF\1B with two seasons of limited MLB experience playing with the Indians and Rays. In 2013 he was playing with Triple A Norfolk of the Baltimore Orioles. He has hit .276/.349/.468 with 11 HR, 49 RBI, 46 R, 1 SB in 86 games. For his MLB career he has hit .271/.304/.396 with 3 HR, 12 RBI, 9 R, 0 SB in 29 games. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 30th round in 2004. Canzler turned 27 on April 11.

RHP Alderson has split 2013 between Double A Altoona and Triple A Indianapolis of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was 1-0, 1.32 ERA, 17 K, 0.44 WHIP, 2 SV in 13.2 IP over 7 games at Altoona and was 3-1, 2.79 ERA, 38 K, 1.19 WHIP in 42.0 IP over 22 games at Indianapolis. He was originally drafted by the Giants with the 22nd pick of the first round in 2007. Alderson will be 25 on November 3rd.
