Here is the 15th Two Major One Minor segment of 2013. This is my third year of doing this series where I feature two Major League players and one minor league player each week. This week I am featuring Jacoby Ellsbury, Everth Cabrera and Travis Jankowski. All there play the game in turbo mode.
Ellsbury is the center fielder for the Boston Red Sox who has a dozen theft lead in the American League heading toward the All-Star break. This season he is hitting .301/.364/.413 with 2 HR, 30 RBI, 55 R, 36 SB in 83 games. Jacoby led the AL in steals in 2008 with 50 and 2009 with a personal best 70. For his seven season MLB career he has hit .297/.351/.438 with 58 HR, 291 RBI, 439 R, 225 SB in 664 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox with the 23rd pick of the first round in 2005. Ellsbury will be 30 on September 11.
Everth is the shortstop for the San Diego Padres and has a much tighter race as he leads the National League in steals by four. This season he is hitting .291/.371/.397 with 4 HR, 25 RBI, 38 R, 38 R, 31 SB in 73 games. Everth led the NL in steals in 2012 with 44. For his five season MLB career he has hit .252/.332/.343 with 9 HR, 102 RBI, 169 R, 112 SB in 369 games. He originally signed with the Rockies in 2004 out of Nicaragua. Cabrera will be 27 on November 17.
Jankowski is the centerfielder for Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore of the Padres. He is one of the minor league steals leaders and has a dozen more than the closest in Class A Advanced. This season he is hitting .274/.358/.343 with 1 HR, 25 RBI, 62 R, 53 SB in 85 games. It is his second season in the minors after starting 2012 in college at Stony Brook where he helped lead them to a historic run to the College World Series. His last season at Stony Brook he hit .414/.475/.620 with 5 HR, 46 RBI, 79 R, 36 SB in 66 games. That enticed the Padres to draft him with the 44th pick of the first round in 2012. Jankowski turned 22 on June 15.
