Collin Cowgill traded to Mets

Collin Cowgill was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the New York Mets on December 18, 2012. In exchange the Athletics received Jefry Marte.

Cowgill is an outfielder with two seasons MLB experience playing with the Athletics and Diamondbacks. He split 2012 between Triple A Sacramento and Oakland and hit .254/.312/.373 with 4 HR, 37 RBI, 33 R, 8 SB in 61 games at Sacramento and hit .269/.336/.317 with 1 HR, 9 RBI, 10 R, 3 SB in 38 games at Oakland. For his MLB career he has hit .255/.319/.311 with 2 HR, 18 RBI, 18 R, 7 SB in 74 games. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in the fifth round in 2008. Cowgill turned 26 on May 22.

Marte is a 3B\1B who played 2012 with the Mets Double A team Binghamton. He hit .251/.322/.366 with 9 HR, 58 RBI, 61 R, 9 SB in 129 games at Binghamton. He originally signed with the Mets as an amateur free agent in 2007 out of the Dominican Republic. Marte turned 21 on June 21.
