Trevor Cahill traded to Diamondbacks

Trevor Cahill was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Arizona Diamondbacks along with Craig Breslow on December 9, 2011. In exchange the Athletics receive Collin Cowgill, Ryan Cook and minor league player Jarrod Parker.


RHP Cahill played three seasons for the Athletics. In 2011 he was 12-14 with a 4.16 ERA, 147 strikeouts and 1.42 WHIP in 207.2 innings over 34 games. For his career he is 40-35 with a 3.91 ERA, 355 strikeouts and 1.32 WHIP in 583 innings over 96 games. He was originally drafted by the Athletics in the second round in 2006.


LHP Breslow has played six seasons for the Athletics, Twins, Indians, Red Sox and Padres. In 2011 he was 0-2 with a 3.79 ERA, 44 strikeouts and 1.52 WHIP in 59.1 innings over 67 games. For his career he is 12-17 with a 3.06 ERA, 235 strikeouts and 1.25 WHIP in 279 innings over 295 games. He was originally drafted by the Brewers in the 26th round in 2002.


Cowgill is an outfielder who split 2011 between Triple A and with the Diamondbacks. He hit .354/.430/.554 with 13 home runs, 70 RBI, 95 runs and 30 steals in 98 games at Triple A and hit .239/.300/.304 with one home run, nine RBI, eight runs and four steals in 36 games with the Diamondbacks. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in the fifth round in 2008.


RHP Cook split his 2011 season between Double A, Triple A and the Diamondbacks. He was 1-4 with a 2.25 ERA, 50 strikeouts, 0.95 WHIP and 13 saves in 44 innings over 34 games at Double A, was 0-1 with a 2.12 ERA, 12 strikeouts, 1.24 WHIP and 6 saves in 17 innings over 14 games at Triple A and was 0-1 with a 7.04 ERA, seven strikeouts and 2.48 WHIP in 7.2 innings over 12 games with the Diamondbacks. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 27th round in 2008.


RHP Parker pitched the 2011 season at the Double A level. He was 11-8 with a 3.79 ERA, 112 strikeouts and 1.28 WHIP in 130.2 innings over 26 games. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks with the ninth pick of the first round in 2007.
