Josh Donaldson of the Toronto Blue Jays was named the 2015 American League Most Valuable Player by the Baseball Writers Association of America. He garnered 23 first place votes and 385 points total. The rest of the top five were Mike Trout of the Angels with seven first place votes and 304 points total, Lorenzo Cain of the Royals with 225 points total, Manny Machado of the Orioles with 158 points total and Dallas Keuchel of the Astros with 107 points total.
Other receiving votes were Nelson Cruz of the Mariners with 94 points total, Adrian Beltre (Rangers, 83), Jose Bautista (Blue Jays, 82), David Price (Tigers/Blue Jays, 62), Jose Altuve (Astros, 44), Miguel Cabrera (Tigers, 40), Edwin Encarnacion (Blue Jays, 38), Prince Fielder (Rangers, 33), Chris Davis (Orioles, 32), J.D. Martinez (Tigers, 18), Jason Kipnis (Indians, 17), Kevin Kiermeier (Rays, 10), Kendrys Morales (Royals, 7), Chris Sale (White Sox, 4), Mookie Betts (Red Sox, 4), Jose Abreu (White Sox, 3), Ian Kinsler (Tigers, 3), Mike Moustakas (Royals, 3), Carlos Correa (Astros, 2), Brian McCann (Yankees, 2), Eric Hosmer (Royals, 2), Russell Martin (Blue Jays, 2), Michael Brantley (Indians, 1), Wade Davis (Royals, 1), Brian Dozier (Twins, 1), David Ortiz (Red Sox, 1), Alex Rodriguez (Yankees, 1) and Mark Teixeira (Yankees, 1).
The third baseman hit .297/.371/.568 with 41 HR, 123 RBI, 122 R, 6 SB in 158 games. Over five MLB seasons with the Blue Jays and Athletics he has hit .276/.354/.490 with 104 HR, 351 RBI, 339 R, 23 SB in 563 games. He was originally drafted by the Athletics with the 48th pick of the first round in 2007 and was traded to the Blue Jays in 2014. Donaldson will be 30 on December 8th.
