Joaquin Benoit traded to Mariners

Joaquin Benoit was traded by the San Diego Padres to the Seattle Mariners on November 12, 2015. The Padres in exchange received Enyel De Los Santos and Nelson Ward.

RHP Benoit was 6-5, 2.34 ERA, 63 K, 0.90 WHIP, .159 BAA, 2 SV in 65.1 IP over 67 games with the Padres in 2015. Over 14 MLB seasons with the Padres, Tigers, Rays and Rangers he is 54-42, 3.84 ERA, 960 K, 1.23 WHIP, .223 BAA, 50 SV in 970.1 IP over 661 games with 55 GS. He originally signed with the Rangers in 1996 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Benoit turned 38 on July 26.

RHP De Los Santos split 2015 between Rookie Arizona and Class A Everett. He was 3-0, 2.55 ERA, 29 K, 1.18 WHIP, .250 BAA in 24.2 IP over 5 games at Arizona and 3-0, 4.06 ERA, 42 K, 1.33 WHIP, .270 BAA in 37.2 IP over 8 games at Everett. He originally signed with the Mariners in 2014 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. De Los Santos will be 20 on December 25.

Nelson is a 2B\SS\3B who split 2015 between Class A Clinton and Class A Advanced Bakersfield. He hit .270/.370/.436 with 2 HR, 16 RBI, 27 R, 5 SB in 46 games at Clinton and .282/.362/.436 with 7 HR, 39 RBI, 54 R, 8 SB in 76 games at Bakersfield. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the 12th round in 2014. Nelson turned 23 on August 6th.
