Chris Stewart traded to Yankees

Chris Stewart was traded by the San Francisco Giants to the New York Yankees on April 4, 2012. In exchange the Giants receive minor league player George Kontos.


Stewart is a catcher who has seen parts of five seasons with the Giants, Padres, Yankees, Rangers and White Sox. He split 2011 between Triple A and the Giants. He hit .221/.312/.274 with 0 HR, 10 RBI, 9 R, 3 SB in 33 games at Triple A and hit .204/.283/.309 with 3 HR, 10 RBI, 20 R and 0 SB in 67 games with the Giants. In his career he has hit .200/.273/.290 with 3 HR, 13 RBI, 24 R, 0 SB in 93 games. He was originally drafted by the White Sox in the 12th round in 2001.


RHP Kontos split 2011 between Triple A and the Yankees. He was 4-4 with a 2.62 ERA, 91 K, 1.10 WHIP and 2 saves in 89.1 innings over 40 games at Triple A and was 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA, 6 K and 1.17 WHIP in 6.0 innings over seven games with the Yankees. He was originally drafted by the Yankees in the fifth round in 2006.
