College Spotlight 041612

Here is my week nine installment of College Spotlight for 2012. This week I am looking at Jayce Boyd of Florida State and Brady Rodgers of Arizona State.

Junior first baseman Jayce Boyd of Florida State is the top hitter on the top ranked team in the nation this week. He had a strong 7 for 14 performance in a three game series against Boston College last weekend. For the season he is hitting .393/.457/.536 with 2 HR, 39 RBI, 28 R and 5 SB in 36 games. He also had a good Sophomore season hitting .343/.423/.543 with 8 HR, 60 RBI, 44 R and 10 SB in 65 games. While the Seminoles are 29-7 I don't see the Seminoles retaining their ranking to the end because other than James Ramsey and Devon Travis, Boyd does not have much support in the line up.

Junior RHP Brady Rodgers of Arizona State had a good outing last Friday against Southern Cal picking up the win with a line of 8.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB and 7 K while facing 30 batters. For the season he is 6-1 with a 1.12 ERA, 55 K and 0.83 WHIP in 72.0 innings over 9 games. He is improving on a his Sophomore season when he was 9-4 with a 2.75 ERA, 87 K and 0.99 WHIP in 98.1 innings over 15 games.
