Philip Humber pitched a perfect nine innings to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 4-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners today. It was the 21st perfect game in MLB history and the third in the history of the White Sox franchise. Humber had the perfect complete game stat line of 9.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K.
Humber was originally drafted by the Mets with the third pick of the first round in 2004. He was traded to the Twins in February 2008, was signed by the Royals as a free agent in December 2009 and was claimed off waivers by the White Sox in January 2011. Between 2007 to 2010 he made occasional appearances with the parent clubs but logged over 100 innings each season in the minors. The White Sox gave him a chance in 2011 and he was 9-9 with a 3.75 ERA, 116 K, 1.18 WHIP in 163.0 innings over 28 games. His outing today was his second game of the year and his 2012 stats currently stand at 1-0, 0.63 ERA, 16 K, 0.63 WHIP in 14.1 innings over two games.
