Two Major One Minor 042412

Here is the second installment of Two Major One Minor for 2012. The players this week are Kyle Drabek, Ross Detwiler and Trevor Bauer.

RHP Kyle Drabek may be having the break out year that the Toronto Blue Jays hoped for when they insisted he be part of the package when they traded away Roy Halladay. He had originally been drafted by the Phillies with the 18th pick of the first round in 2006. This season he has started 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA, 15 K, 1.28 WHIP in 18.0 IP over three games. He is improving on his previous numbers and for his career is 6-8 with a 5.23 ERA, 78 K, 1.65 WHIP in 113.2 IP over 24 games. Drabek turned 24 on December 8.

LHP Detwiler is also off to a hot start for the Washington Nationals and appears likely to hold his spot in the rotation even as Chien-Mien Wang is nearing a return from the DL. This season Detwiler is 2-0 with a 0.56 ERA, 15 K, 0.94 WHIP in 16.0 IP over three games. For his career he is 8-14 with a 3.78 ERA, 117 K, 1.41 WHIP in 188.1 IP over 42 games. Detwiler turned 26 on March 6th.

RHP Bauer is in just his second season in the minors after being drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the third pick of the first round in 2011. So far this season while pitching at Double A he is 4-0 with a 0.40 ERA, 28 K, 1.15 WHIP in 22.2 IP over four games. While he is clearly dominating it is unclear whether he will spend some time seasoning at Triple A before getting the call up or make the jump directly to the Diamondbacks. Bauer turned 21 on January 17.
