Here is my ninth Two Major One Minor segment of 2014. This is my fourth year of doing this series where I feature two Major League players and one minor league player each week. This week I am featuring Khris Davis, Brandon Moss and Jon Griffin.
Davis is an outfielder in his second MLB season with the Milwaukee Brewers. Last year in his first with the team he had the distinction of leading the entire MLB for all players with at least 100 AB after the All-Star break in slugging percentage with .639. That was aided by eight doubles and 11 home runs in 119 AB over 41 games. While he hasn't maintained that pace in the first half of his sophomore campaign he is still hitting a respectable .258/.295/.485 with 9 HR, 22 RBI, 34 R, 0 SB in 52 games. With only a month to the All-Star game it will be interesting to see if he heats up with the summer months. He was originally drafted by the Brewers in the seventh round in 2009. Davis turned 26 on December 21.
Moss is an OF\1B in his eighth MLB season and third with the Oakland Athletics. He was the American League leader in slugging percentage following the All-Star break for players with at least 100 AB with .615. That number was aided by 15 doubles and 14 home runs in 179 AB over 58 games. Moss had trouble getting his career to have traction until he broke out in 2012 and hasn't looked back. This season he is hitting .276/.366/.568 with 13 HR, 46 RBI, 28 R, 1 SB in 54 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the eighth round in 2002. Moss will be 31 on September 16.
Griffin is a first baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks Double A team at Mobile and it was just under two weeks ago I wrote about him hitting four home runs in a game. After a brief slump he has started hitting them out again as he has had three in the past two games. For the season he is now hitting .268/.365/.531 with 13 HR, 41 RBI, 27 R, 0 SB in 51 games. If he keeps hitting them out you have to wonder if they will try moving him to another position with All-Star Paul Goldschmidt blocking him at first. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 21st round in 2011. Griffin turned 25 on April 29.
