Three 10s for Canada 060514

While not exactly Olympic performances Juan Francisco, Brett Lawrie and Melky Cabrera of the Toronto Blue Jays all hit their 10th home run of the season helping beat the Detroit Tigers 7-3 on June 5, 2014. Francisco had a 2-run blast in the sixth off Justin Verlander. Lawrie added a solo shot in the next at bat also off Verlander. Cabrara had a solo shot of his own in the ninth off Phil Coke.

For the game Francisco was 1 for 4 with his home run, 2 RBI and run while batting fifth and playing third base. He has split this season between Triple A Buffalo and the Blue Jays as he has hit .341/.420/.568 with 2 Hr, 11 RBI, 9 R, 0 SB in 12 games at Buffalo and has hit .268/.350/.593 with 10 HR, 26 RBI, 24 R, 0 SB in 38 games with the Blue Jays. For his six season MLB career he has hit .246/.307/.456 with 42 RBI, 135 RBI, 94 R, 2 SB in 336 games. He originally signed with the Reds in 2004 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Francisco will be 27 on June 24.

For the game Lawrie was 1 for 3 with his home run, 1 RBI, 2 runs and a walk while batting sixth and splitting time between second and third. This season he has hit .240/.289/.428 with 10 HR, 35 RBI, 21 R, 0 SB in 54 games with the Blue Jays. For his four season MLB career he has hit .264/.321/.427 with 41 HR, 154 RBI, 161 R, 29 SB in 329 games. He was originally drafted by the Brewers with the 16th pick of the first round in 2008. Lawrie turned 24 on January 18.

For the game Cabrera was 1 for 5 with his home run, 1 RBI and 1 run while batting second and playing in left field. This season he has hit .307/.348/.496 with 10 HR, 33 RBI, 41 R, 4 SB in 60 games with the Blue Jays. For his 10 season MLB career he has hit .285/.338/.415 with 82 HR, 480 RBI, 566 R, 90 SB in 1132 games. He originally signed with the Yankees in 2001 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Cabrera will be 30 on August 11.

The Toronto Blue Jays are currently 37-24 and lead the American League East by 5.5 games over the Baltimore Orioles.
