This is the first installment of a new weekly series where I will look at players with similar names. The purpose is to sort out who is who and clear up any confusion. This week we will look at two players named Michael Taylor.
We'll start with the player with MLB experience that is currently at Triple A Sacramento of the Oakland Athletics. He is an outfielder who this season has hit .249/.361/.403 with 5 HR, 28 RBI, 34 R, 7 SB in 54 games at Sacramento. He hits and bats right handed and is an imposing 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds. He does have three seasons of limited MLB experience with the Athletics as he has hit .135/.210/.189 with 1 HR, 1 RBI, 6 R, 0 SB in 26 games. He was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth round in 2007 out of Stanford. He had been a top 30 prospect in 2010 after combining for .320/.395/.549 with 20 HR, 84 RBI, 74 R, 21 SB in 116 games between the Phillies Double A and Triple A teams in 2009. After that 2009 season he was traded to the Blue Jays and then to the Athletics. Taylor turned 28 on December 19.
The other Michael Taylor is also an outfielder playing at Double A Harrisburg of the Washington Nationals. This season he is trying to distinguish himself by being represented as Michael A Taylor in the box score. The "A" may stand for Anthony but it could also stand for the A-game he has been putting forth this season. He has hit .324/.410/.602 with 15 HR, 46 RBI, 44 R, 17 SB in 58 games at Harrisburg. He also hits and throws right handed and stands 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds. He was originally drafted by the Nationals in the sixth round in 2009 out of high school. Taylor turned 23 on March 26.
