Entering the second week of the 2013 season it is nice to see the Kansas City Royals on top in the American League Central with a 6-3 record. In a sport of streaks and slumps it is much better to get off to a hot start. Last season the Royals dug themselves into a hole early that they were never able to get out of. It is also so important to get off to a 3-0 start at home to bring the winning vibe back there. Last season the Royals were 3-10 and 0-7 at home after two weeks and were 6-14 and 0-10 at home after three weeks. Winning breeds winning and the team is well ahead of last year.
The Royals now have a chance to live up the predictions I made last year. The line up should be even stronger with another year of experience and Hosmer breaking out of his sophomore slump. The pitching staff had no where to go but up and the off season moves of getting Shields and Santana takes it several levels higher. I haven't seen any of the experts pick the Royals to win the division but a handful think a wild card is possible. The team will have to take baby steps into each week and do all the little things right as they strive toward a winning season. Make the play offs will be the cherry on top of that.
