Wilson Valdez traded to Reds

Wilson Valdez was traded by the Philadelphia Phillies to the Cincinnati Reds on January 25, 2012. In exchange the Phillies receive Jeremy Horst.


Valdez has played shortstop, second and third for six seasons with the Phillies, Mets, Dodgers, Padres, Mariners and White Sox. In 2011 with the Phillies he hit .249/.294/.341 with one home runs, 30 RBI, 39 runs and 3 steals in 99 games. For his career he has hit .243/.290/.330 with six home runs, 92 RBI, 116 runs and 14 steals in 362 games. He originally signed with the Expos as an amateur free agent in 1997 out of the Dominican Republic.


LHP Horst split 2011 between Triple A and the Reds. He was 1-4 with a 2.81 ERA, 42 strikeouts and 1.07 WHIP in 51.1 innings over 36 games at Triple A and was 0-0 with a 2.93 ERA, nine strikeouts and 1.56 WHIP in 15.1 innings over 12 games with the Reds. He was originally drafted by the Reds in the 21st round in 2007.
