Carlos Zambrano traded to Marlins

Carlos Zambrano was traded by the Chicago Cubs to the Miami Marlins on January 4, 2012. In exchange the Cubs receive Chris Volstad.


RHP Zambrano pitched 11 seasons with the Cubs. In 2011 he was 9-7 with a 4.82 ERA, 101 strikeouts and 1.44 WHIP in 145.2 innings over 24 games. For his career he is 125-81 with a 3.60 ERA, 1542 strikeouts and 1.32 WHIP in 1826.2 innings over 319 games. He originally signed with the Cubs as an amateur free agent in 1997 out of Venezuela.


RHP Volstad pitched four seasons with the Marlins. In 2011 he was 5-13 with a 4.89 ERA, 117 strikeouts and 1.42 WHIP in 165.2 innings over 29 games. For his career he is 32-39 with a 4.59 ERA, 378 strikeouts and 1.41 WHIP in 584 innings over 103 games. He was originally drafted by the Marlins with the 16th pick in the first round in 2005.
