I'm going to take a look at how the members of the 2007 Baseball America high school baseball All American team did in 2011. It will be interesting how well early success translated to their later baseball careers.
RHP Tim Alderson of Horizon High School in Scottsdale, AZ was drafted by the San Francisco Giants with the 22nd pick of the first round in 2007. He was traded to the Pirates in 2009. He pitched 2011 at Double A and was 0-4 with a 4.12 ERA, 57 strikeouts and 1.30 WHIP in 74.1 innings over 42 games.
RHP Blake Beavan of Irving High School in Irving, TX was drafted by the Texas Rangers with the 17th pick of the first round in 2007. He was traded to the Mariners in 2010. He split the 2011 season between Triple A and the Mariners. He was 5-3 with a 4.45 ERA, 64 strikeouts and 1.48 WHIP in 93 innings over 16 games at Triple A and was 5-6 with a 4.27 ERA, 42 strikeouts and 1.25 WHIP in 97 innings over 15 games with the Mariners.
LHP Madison Bumgarner of South Caldwell High School in Hudson, NC was drafted by the San Francisco Giants with the 10th pick of the first round in 2007. He pitched the 2011 season with the Giants. He was 13-13 with a 3.21 ERA, 191 strikeouts and 1.21 WHIP in 204.2 innings over 33 games.
RHP Jarrod Parker of Norwell High School of Ossain, IN was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the ninth pick of the first round in 2007. He pitched most of the season at Double A plus one game with the Diamondbacks. He was 11-8 with a 3.79 ERA, 112 strikeouts and 1.28 WHIP in 130.2 innings over 26 games at Double A and was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, one strikeout and 0.88 WHIP in 5.2 innings in his one game with the Diamondbacks. After the season the was traded to the Athletics.
RHP Rick Porcello of Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange, NJ was drafted by the Detroit Tigers with the 27th pick of the first round in 2007. He pitched 2011 with the Tigers. He was 14-9 with a 4.75 ERA, 104 strikeouts and 1.41 WHIP in 182 innings over 31 games.
Catcher Yasmani Grandal of Miami Springs High School in Miami, FL was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 27th round in 2007 but opted to play for Miami. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds with the 12th pick of the first round in 2010. He split the 2011 season between Class A Advanced, Double A and Triple A. He hit .296/.410/.510 with 10 home runs, 40 RBI, 47 runs and zero steals in 56 games at Class A Advanced, hit .301/.360/.474 with four home runs, 26 RBI, 20 runs and zero steals in 45 games with Double A and hit .500/.667/.667 with zero home runs, two RBI, two runs and zero steals in four games at Triple A. He was traded to the Padres after the season.
Infielder Kevin Ahrens 16th out of Memorial High School in Houston, TX was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 16th pick of the first round in 2007.He played the 2011 season at Class A Advanced and hit .242/.334/.389 with 13 home runs, 54 RBI, 59 runs and zero steals in 121 games.
Infielder Matt Dominguez of Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, CA was drafted by the Florida Marlins with the 12th pick of the first round in 2007. He split the 2011 season between Class A Advanced, Double A, Triple A and the Marlins. He hit .167/.250/.167 with zero home runs, two RBI, zero runs and zero steals in four games at Class A Advanced, hit .133/.316/.133 with zero home runs, one RBI, one runs and zero steals in four games at Double A, was .258/.312/.431 with 12 home runs, 55 RBI, 47 runs and zero steals in 87 games at Triple A and hit .244/.292/.333 with zero home runs, two RBI, two runs and zero steals in 17 games with the Marlins.
Infielder Mike Moustakas of Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, CA was drafted by the Kansas City Royals with the second pick of the first round in 2007. He split the 2011 season between Triple A and the Royals. He hit .287/.347/.498 with 10 home runs, 44 RBI, 38 runs and one steal in 55 games at Triple A and hit .263/.309/.367 with five home runs, 30 RBI, 26 runs and 2 steals in 89 games with the Royals.
Infielder Josh Vitters of Cypress High School in Anaheim, CA was drafted by the Chicago Cubs with the third pick of the first round in 2007. He played 2011 at Double A and hit .283/.322/.448 with 14 home runs, 81 RBI, 56 runs and 4 steals in 129 games.
Outfielder Wendell Fairley of George County High School in Lucedale, MS was drafted by the San Francisco Giants with the 29th pick of the first round in 2007. He split the 2011 season between Class A Advanced and Double A. He hit .245/.329/.317 with two home runs, 21 RBI, 28 runs and 3 steals in 60 games at Class A Advanced and hit .365/.321/.337 with zero home runs, seven RBI, 11 runs and 2 steals in 34 games at Double A.
Outfielder Jason Heyward of Henry County High School in McDonough, GA was drafted by the Atlanta Braves with the 14th pick of the first round in 2007. He played 2011 with the Braves and hit .227/.319/.389 with 14 home runs, 42 RBI, 50 runs and 9 steals in 128 games.
Outfielder Ben Revere of Lexington Catholic High School in Lexington, KY was drafted by the Minnesota Twins with the 28th pick of the first round in 2007. He split the 2011 season between Triple A and the Twins. He hit .303/.338/.364 with one home run, nine RBI, 15 runs and 8 steals in 32 games at Triple A and hit .267/.310/.309 with zero home runs, 30 RBI, 56 runs and 34 steals in 117 games with the Twins.
Utility/RHP Michael Main of DeLand High School in DeLand, FL was drafted by the Texas Rangers with the 24th pick of the first round in 2007. He was traded to the Giants in 2010. He pitched 2011 at Class A Advanced and was 2-4 with a 6.84 ERA, 46 strikeouts and 1.86 WHIP in 52.2 innings over 22 games.
