2012 Where are they now 2008 top prospects AL Central

Each year the prospect lists come out and the future of each team is reevaluated accordingly. I'm going to look at who the top prospect of each American League Central team was in 2008 and how they did in 2011.


The Chicago White Sox top prospect was LHP Aaron Poreda. He was originally drafted by the White Sox with the 25th pick of the first round in 2007. He was traded to the Padres in 2009. He pitched in 2011 at Triple A and was 4-3 with a 5.43 ERA, 79 strikeouts and 1.84 WHIP in 69.2 innings over 41 games.


The Cleveland Indians top prospect was RHP Adam Miller. He was originally drafted by the Indians with the 31st pick of the first round in 2003. He missed the 2009 and 2010 seasons with finger injuries. He pitched in 2011 for the Indians Class A Advanced and Double A teams. He was 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA, 14 strikeouts and 1.18 WHIP in 11 innings over eight games at Class A Advanced and was 1-4 with a 6.27 ERA, 25 strikeouts and 1.79 WHIP in 33 innings over 23 games 23 games at Double A. After the season he signed a minor league contract with the Yankees.


The Detroit Tigers top prospect was RHP Rick Porcello. He was originally drafted by the Tigers with the 27th pick in the first round in 2007. He pitched in 2011 for the Tigers and was 14-9 with a 4.75 ERA, 104 strikeouts and 1.41 WHIP in 182 innings over 31 games.


The Kansas City Royals top prospect was shortstop Mike Moustakas. He was originally drafted by the Royals with the second pick of the first round in 2007. He split 2011 between Triple A and the Royals. He hit .287/.347/.498 with 10 home runs, 44 RBI, 38 runs and one steal in 55 games at Triple A and hit .263/.309/.367 with five home runs, 30 RBI, 26 runs and 2 steals in 89 games with the Royals.


The Minnesota Twins top prospect was RHP Nick Blackburn.  He was originally drafted by the Twins in the 29th round in 2001. He pitched in 2011 with the Twins and was 7-10 with a 4.49 ERA, 76 strikeouts and 1.60 WHIP in 148.1 innings over 26 games.
