Giants claim playoff spot 2012

The San Francisco Giants clinched the third NL playoff spot as they claimed the NL West crown. They beat the Padres 8-4 as they ran their record to 89-63 on September 22. The Giants had an 11 game lead on the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cincinnati Reds had already clinched a playoff spot but claimed the NL Central crown with a 6-0 win over the Dodgers. The Reds lead was also 11 games over the St Louis Cardinals.
