Haymarket in Lincoln 040612

Yesterday I enjoyed a nice treat while watching Nebraska play Iowa at Haymarket Park in Lincoln. It was a nice Spring day for early April. I was there with family and friends and it was a perfect day to catch a baseball game. There were plenty of peanuts for every one and the hot chocolate helped ward off the chill once the sun went down. The only downside was when Nebraska lost 4-3.

The teams were evenly matched although Nebraska came in with a better record. Yet Nebraska did not play a sharp game. Nebraska had three errors including two on one play in the inning where they allowed Iowa to score all four of their runs. There were also three base running errors that prevented Nebraska from scoring a run on one and led to two outs on the others. It was also glaring how difficult Nebraska had laying down the bunts for sacrifices. If you want to play small ball that is one of the basics. On the radio after the game Coach Erstad said the team is playing scared because they haven't been consistent once they entered conference play. It showed yesterday.

It is still early in the season and Nebraska has plenty of talented bats to keep them in many games. They just have to get in the right mind set. Hopefully Coach Erstad and Coach Bolt can help them get there sooner than later.
