Michael Pineda traded to Yankees

Michael Pineda was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the New York Yankees with minor league player Jose Campos on January 14, 2012. In exchange the Mariners receive Jesus Montero and Hector Noesi.


RHP Pineda pitched his rookie 2011 season with the Mariners. He was 9-10 with a 3.74 ERA, 173 strikeouts and 1.10 WHIP in 171 innings over 28 games. He originally signed with the Mariners as an amateur free agent in 2005 out of the Domincan Republic.


RHP Campos pitched the 2011 season with the Mariners Class A short season team. He was 5-5 with a 2.32 ERA, 85 strikeouts and 0.97 WHIP in 81.1 innings over 14 games. He originally signed with the Mariners as an amateur free agent in 2009 out of Venezuela.


Montero is a catcher and DH who split the 2011 season between Triple A and the Yankees. He hit .288/.348/.467 with 18 home runs, 67 RBI, 52 runs and zero steals in 109 games at Triple A and hit .328/.406/.590 with four home runs, 12 RBI, nine runs and zero steals in 18 games with the Yankees. He originally signed with the Yankees as an amateur free agent in 2006 out of Venezuela. 


RHP Noesi split the 2011 season between Triple A and the Yankees. He was 1-1 with a 3.28 ERA, 17 strikeouts and 1.50 WHIP in 24.2 innings over six games at Triple A and was 2-2 with a 4.47 ERA, 45 strikeouts and 1.51 WHIP in 56.1 innings over 30 games with the Yankees. He originally signed with the Yankees as an amateur free agent in 2004 out of the Dominican Republic.
