Marco Scutaro traded to Rockies

Marco Scutaro was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Colorado Rockies on January 21, 2012. In exchange the Red Sox receive Clayton Mortensen.


Scutaro played shortstop, second base and third base for the Red Sox and in 10 seasons has played for the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Athletics and Mets. In 2011 he hit .299/.358/.423 with seven home runs, 54 RBI, 59 runs and 4 steals in 113 games with the Red Sox. For his career he has hit .270/.338/.389 with 68 home runs, 404 RBI, 538 runs and 44 steals in 1103 games. He originally signed with the Indians as an amateur free agent in 1994 out of Venezuela. 


RHP Mortensen has pitched three seasons with the Rockies, Athletics and Cardinals. He split 2011 between Triple A and the Rockies. He was 2-8 with a 9.42 ERA, 54 strikeouts and 2.08 WHIP in 64 innings over 15 games at Triple A and was 2-4 with a 3.86 ERA, 30 strikeouts and 1.35 WHIP in 58.1 innings over 16 games with the Rockies. For his career he is 4-8 with a 5.12 ERA, 50 strikeouts and 1.49 WHIP in 95 innings over 24 games. He was originally drafted by the Cardinals with the 36th pick in the first round in 2007.
