Jake Brentz traded to Pirates

Jake Brentz was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Pittsburgh Pirates on September 1, 2016 along with Pedro Vasquez to complete an earlier deal.

LHP Brentz had split 2016 between Short Season A Everett, Class A Clinton and Triple A Tacoma. He was 1-1, 5.08 ERA, 35 K, 1.84 WHIP, .268 BAA in 33.2 IP over 10 games with 7 GS at Everett, 3-1, 4.35 ERA, 14 K, 1.26 WHIP, .179 BAA in 10.1 IP over 8 games at Clinton and 0-0, 16.20 ERA, 1 K, 2.40 WHIP, .400 BAA in 1.2 IP over 2 games at Tacoma. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 11th round in 2013 and traded to the Mariners in 2015. Brentz will be 22 on September 14,

RHP Vasquez had split 2016 between Rookie Arizona and Clinton. He was 2-2, 2.22 ERA, 22 K, 1.02 WHIP, .238 BAA in 28.1 IP over 5 games at Arizona and 3-2, 2.28 ERA, 30 K, 0.90 WHIP, .223 BAA in 43.1 IP over 8 games at Clinton. He originally signed with the Mariners in 2015 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Vasquez will be 21 on September 23.
