Luis Ayala traded to Braves

Luis Ayala was traded by the Baltimore Orioles to the Atlanta Braves on April 10, 2013. In exchange the Orioles received Chris Jones.

RHP Ayala has nine seasons MLB experience pitching with the Orioles, Yankees, Marlins, Twins, Mets, Nationals and Expos. This season he was 1-0, 9.00 ERA, 2 K, 2.00 WHIP in 2.0 IP in 2 games with the Orioles. In 2012 he was 5-5, 2.64 ERA, 51 K, 1.27 WHIP, 1 SV in 75.0 IP over 66 games with the Orioles. For his MLB career he is 37-46, 3.37 ERA, 347 K, 1.29 WHIP, 19 SV in 523.1 IP over 497 games. His contract was originally purchased by the Colorado Rockies in 1999 from Saltillo (Mexico). Ayala turned 35 on January 12.

LHP Jones was at Double A Mississippi at the time of the trade. This season he was 0-0, 13.50 ERA, 1 K, 3.00 WHIP in 1.1 IP in 1 game. In 2012 he was 2-5, 3.90 ERA, 61 K, 1.47 WHIP, 2 SV in 60.0 IP over 45 games at Mississippi. He was originally drafted by the Indians in the 15th round in 2007. Jones will be 25 on September 19.
