Here is my week eighth installment of College Spotlight for 2013. This week I am looking at Zack Granite of Seton Hall and Eric Peterson of Temple.
Junior Zack Granite is an outfielder out of Tottenville High School in Staten Island, NY. The Pirates lead off hitter is coming off a three game series against Rutgers where he was 6 for 13 with 4 RBI, 6 R and 3 BB while playing center field. For the season he is hitting .336/.412/.431 with 0 HR, 16 RBI, 27 R, 17 SB in 29 games. Last season as a sophomore he hit .302/.387/.355 with 0 HR, 11 RBI, 34 R, 21 SB in 41 games. Granite shows that baseball talent isn't limited to the warm weather states.
Sophomore RHP Eric Peterson is out of Charter School of Wilmington in Wilmington, DE. Peterson is coming off a complete game one hitter against La Salle which the Owls won 3-0. His line for the game was 9.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 K in 114 pitches. For the season he is 4-0, 1.91 ERA, 42 K, 0.73 WHIP in 42.1 IP over 8 games. Last season as a freshman he was 1-1, 5.29 ERA, 35 K, 1.49 WHIP over 17 games. He has taken a huge leap forward and if he continues at this rate he should be one of the aces of the North East.
