Scott Hairston traded to Nationals

Scott Hairston was traded by the Chicago Cubs to the Washington Nationals on July 8, 2013. In exchange the Cubs received Ivan Pineyro and a player to be named later.

Hairston is an OF\2B with 10 seasons MLB experience playing with the Cubs, Mets, Padres, Athletics and Diamondbacks. This season he is hitting .172/.232/.434 with 8 HR, 19 RBI, 13 R, 2 SB in 52 games. For his MLB career he has hit .244/.299/.448 with 103 HR, 298 RBI, 289 R, 36 SB in 829 games. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks in the third round in 2001. Hairston turned 33 on May 25.

RHP Pineyro has split 2013 between Class A Hagerstown and Class A Advanced Potomac of the Nationals. He was 5-3, 3.14 ERA, 65 K, 1.12 WHIP in 66.0 IP over 13 games at Hagerstown and was 1-0, 3.86 ERA, 7 K, 1.37 WHIP in 11.2 IP over 2 games at Potomac. He originally signed with the Nationals in 2010 out of the Dominican Republic. Pineyro will be 22 on September 29.
