Charlie Morton traded to Phillies

Charlie Morton was traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Philadelphia Phillies on December 12, 2015. The Pirates in exchange received David Whitehead.

RHP Morton split 2015 between Double A Altoona and Triple A Indianapolis while rehabbing and the Pirates. He was 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 5 K, 0.57 WHIP, .091 BAA in 7.0 IP in 1 game at Altoona, 1-1, 2.03 ERA, 17 K, 1.28 WHIP, .255 BAA in 13.1 IP over 2 games at Indianapolis and 9-9, 4.81 ERA, 96 K, 1.38 WHIP, .271 BAA in 129.0 IP over 23 games with the Pirates. Over nine MLB seasons with the Phillies, Pirates and Braves he is 46-71, 4.54 ERA, 630 K, 1.44 WHIP, .276 BAA in 893.0 IP over 162 games. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the third round in 2002. Morton turned 32 on November 12.

RHP Whitehead pitched at Class A Advanced Clearwater in 2015 where he was 9-11, 4.44 ERA, 94 K, 1.50 WHIP, .291 BAA in 135.2 IP over 25 games. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in the 34th round in 2013. Whitehead turned 24 on April 21.
