Here is my second installment of College Spotlight for 2015. This week I am looking at Collin Shaw of Texas and Luke Gillingham of Navy.
Shaw is a senior outfielder out of Westlake High School in Austin, TX. He is a doubles machine as they account for 10 of his 16 hits. This season he is hitting .340/.426/.596 with 0 HR, 11 RBI, 6 R, 1 SB in 12 games. Last season as a junior he hit .264/.355/.301 with 0 HR, 23 RBI, 22 R, 13 SB in 61 games. So far he already has twice as many doubles as he did in 2014. The Longhorns are 8-4 after being swept in a double header against San Diego Sunday.
LHP Gillingham is a junior whose home port is Coronado, CA where he went to Coronado High School. He is coming off a pitching duel on Friday when he had a no decision in a 2-1 loss to Air Force. His line for the game was 8.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 12 K in 110 pitches. This season he is 1-0, 0.41 ERA, 42 K, 0.45 WHIP, .111 BAA in 22.0 IP over 3 games. Last season as a sophomore he was 2-6, 3.33 ERA, 59 K, 1.33 WHIP, .257 BAA in 67.2 IP over 12 games. The Midshipmen are 6-4 so far this season.
