Matt Diaz retires
Matt Diaz announced his retirement from playing baseball in February 2014. The outfielder had 11 seasons MLB experience playing with the Devil Rays (2003-2004), Royals (2005), Braves (2006-2010, 2011-2012), Pirates (2011) and Marlins (2013). He split 2013 between Triple A New Orleans and the Marlins. He hit .341/.385/.459 with 2 HR, 10 RBI, 8 R, 6 SB in 24 games at New Orleans and hit .167/.211/.222 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 10 games with the Marlins. For his MLB career he hit .290/.338/.429 with 45 HR, 226 RBI, 212 R, 33 SB in 736 games. He was originally drafted by the Devil Rays in the 17th round in 1999. Diaz was 35 at the time of his retirement.
