Andrelton Simmons gets Braves extension

Andrelton Simmons was given a seven year deal worth $58 million by the Braves. The shortstop has two seasons of MLB experience and is the fifth young player to be locked up long term by the Braves this month. In 2013 he hit .248/.296/.396 with 17 HR, 59 RBI, 76 R, 6 SB in 157 games while establishing himself as one of the best defensive shortstops in the MLB. For his MLB career he has hit .256/.304/.400 with 20 HR, 78 RBI, 93 R, 7 SB in 206 games. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the second round in 2010. Simmons will be 25 on September 4th.
