Jose Fernandez MLB debut 040713
Jose Fernandez of the Miami Marlins made his MLB debut on April 7, 2013 against the New York Mets. He had a no decision as his line was 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K in 80 pitches. Fernandez missed out on his first win after the Mets scored twice in the ninth to win 4-3. While Fernandez had been impressive in the minors in 2012 he had not pitched above the Class A Advanced level. Injuries the the pitching staff made it necessary. He had split 2012 between Class A Greensboro and Class A Advanced Jupiter. The RHP was 7-0, 1.59 ERA, 99 K, 0.87 WHIP in 79.0 IP over 14 games at Greensboro and was 7-1, 1.96 ERA, 59 K, 1.00 WHIP in 55.0 IP over 11 games at Jupiter. He was originally drafted by the Marlins with the 14th pick of the first round in 2011. Fernandez will be 21 on July 31.
