Two Major One Minor 060215

Here is my eighth Two Major One Minor segment of 2015. This is my fifth year of doing this series where I feature two Major League players and one minor league player each week. This week I am featuring Aaron Harang, Jesse Chavez and Alex Reyes.

RHP Harang is a big and durable journeyman who eats innings and is quietly productive but struggles to stay above .500. That is apparant this season with the Phillies as they look up from the cellar in the NL East two month in. This season he is 4-5, 2.02 ERA, 53 K, 1.00 WHIP, .215 BAA in 71.1 IP over 11 games. The veteran is allowing a career best 7.1 hits/9, 1.9 BB/9 and 0.5 HR/9. He is also on pace to go over 200 innings for the fifth time in his 14 MLB seasons. Harang will be 37 on May 9th.

RHP Chavez is only in his eighth MLB season but is also having a career best year with his respective cellar occupant the Oakland Athletics. This season he is 2-5, 2.11 ERA, 51 K, 1.04 WHIP, .219 BAA, 1 SV in 59.2 IP over 12 games with 8 GS. Although his K/9 is down he is also having career bests of 7.1 hits/9, 2.3 BB/9 and 0.3 HR/9. This is his second season of transitioning to a starting role  and he is showing many positives. Chavez will be 32 on August 21.

RHP Reyes is a flame thrower at Class A Advanced Palm Beach of the St Louis Cardinals. He has had three double digit strike out games in the young season as he is 1-4, 2.25 ERA, 66 K, 1.25 WHIP, .204 BAA in 44.0 IP over 9 games. He has a minor league career best 13.5 K/9 and has yet to give up a home run this season. He originally signed with the Cardinals in 2012 as a non-drafted free agent after taking an unusual route. He grew up near Elizabeth, NJ and his family is from the Dominican Republic and decided to move back there in 2011. The move allowed Reyes to work on his baseball year round before his signing. Reyes will be 21 on August 29.
