Kelly Johnson traded to Orioles

Kelly Johnson was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Baltimore Orioles on August 31, 2014 along with Michael Almanzar. In exchange the Red Sox received Jemile Weeks and Ivan De Jesus.

Johnson is a 2B\3B\OF who had only been with the Red Sox one month after being traded by the Yankees. He hit .219/.304/.373 with 6 HR, 22 RBI, 21 R, 2 SB in 77 games with the Yankees, .160/.160/.200 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 10 games with the Red Sox and later .231/.333/410 with 1 HR, 4 RBI, 7 R, 0 SB in 19 games with the Orioles. Over his nine season MLB career with the Orioles, Red Sox, Yankees, Rays, Blue Jays, Daimondbacks and Braves he has hit .250/.333/.423 with 131 HR, 469 RBI, 569 R, 81 SB in 1157 games. He was originally drafted by the Braves with the 38th pick of the first round in 2000. Johnson will be 33 on February 22.

1B\3B Almanzar played at Double A Portland prior to the trade where he hit .277/.356/.422 with 5 HR, 25 RBI, 18 R, 2 SB in 49 games. After the trade he split time between Rookie Gulf Coast, Class A Advanced Frederick and Triple A Norfolk as he hit .125/.125/.250 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 2 games at Gulf Coast, .118/.211/.235 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 5 games at Frederick and .118/.167/.294 with 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 5 games at Norfolk. He originally signed with the Orioles in 2007 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Almanzar turned 24 on December 2nd.

Second baseman Weeks prior to the trade split 2014 between Rookie Gulf Coast, Class A Aberdeen, Triple A Norfolk and the Orioles. He hit .563/.632/.875 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 5 R, 1 SB in 5 games at Gulf Coast, .364/.462/.455 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB in 3 games at Aberdeen, .280/.392/.391 with 1 HR, 19 RBI, 29 R, 8 SB in 63 games at Norfolk and .273/.273/.455 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 3 games with the Orioles. After the trade he hit .308/.406/.423 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 8 R, 2 SB in 17 games with the Red Sox. Over four MLB seasons with the Red Sox, Orioles and Athletics he has hit .260/.322/.360 with 4 HR, 59 RBI, 115 R, 40 SB in 240 games. He was originally drafted by the Athletics with the 12th pick of the first round in 2008. Weeks turned 28 on January 26.

2B\3B De Jesus played at Triple A Norfolk prior to the trade where he hit .282/.358/.389 with 5 HR, 56 RBI, 54 R, 2 SB in 113 games. After the trade he played 2 games at Triple A Pawtucket where he hit .167/.375/.167 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the second round in 2005. De Jesus will be 28 on May 1st.
