Alejandro De Aza traded to Orioles

Alejandro De Aza was traded by the Chicago White Sox to the Baltimore Orioles on August 31, 2014. In exchange the White Sox received Mark Blackmar and Miguel Chalas.

De Aza is an outfielder who hit .243/.309/.354 with 5 HR, 31 RBI, 45 R, 15 SB in 122 games with the White Sox prior to the trade. After the trade he hit .293/.341/.537 with 3 HR, 10 RBI, 11 R, 2 SB in 20 games with the Orioles. Over seven MLB seasons with the Orioles, White Sox and Marlins he has hit .268/.330/.403 38 HR, 189 RBI, 277 R, 79 SB in 566 games. He originally signed with the Dodgers in 2001 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. De Aza will be 31 on August 11.

RHP Blackmar was at Class A Advanced Frederick prior to the trade and was 10-1, 3.18 ERA, 83 K, 1.08 WHIP, .229 BAA, 1 SV in 130.1 IP over 26 games. He was originally drafted by the Orioles in the 16th round in 2011. Blackmar will be 23 on April 28.

RHP Chalas split 2014 prior to the trade between Class A Advanced Frederick and Triple A Norfolk as he was 2-3, 4.83 ERA, 49 K, 1.39 WHIP, .276 BAA in 69.0 IP over 28 games at Frederick and 1-1, 1.29 ERA, 5 K, 1.14 WHIP, .091 BAA in 7.0 IP over 2 games at Norfolk. He originally signed with the Orioles in 2010 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Chalas will be 23 on June 27.
