Jonathan Broxton traded to Brewers

Jonathan Broxton was traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Milwaukee Brewers on August 31, 2014. In exchange the Reds received Barrett Astin and Kevin Shackelford.

RHP Broxton split 2014 before the trade between Double A Pensacola and the Reds as he was 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 K, 0.50 WHIP, .143 BAA in 2.0 IP over 2 games at Pensacola and 4-2, 1.86 ERA, 37 K, 1.01 WHIP, .190 BAA, 7 SV in 48.1 IP over 51 games with the Reds. After the trade he was 0-1, 4.35 ERA, 12 K, 1.06 WHIP, .225 BAA in 10.1 IP over 11 games with the Brewers. Over 10 MLB seasons with the Brewers, Reds, Royals and Dodgers he is 35-30, 3.07 ERA, 622 K, 1.21 WHIP, .224 BAA, 118 SV in 539.1 IP over 542 games. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the second round in 2002. Broxton will be 31 on June 16.

RHP Astin pitched in 2014 at Class A Wisconsin where he was 8-7, 4.96 ERA, 81 K, 1.38 WHIP, .277 BAA, 4 SV in 121.2 IP over 27 games. He was originally drafted by the Brewers in the third round in 2013. Astin turned 23 on October 22.

RHP Shackelford split 2014 between Class A Advanced Brevard County and Double A Huntsville as he was 0-0, 0.89 ERA, 16 K, 1.13 WHIP, .260 BAA, 5 SV in 20.2 IP over 12 games at Brevard County and 2-4, 4.86 ERA, 25 K, 1.54 WHIP, .287 BAA, 1 SV in 50.0 IP over 40 games at Huntsville. He was originally drafted by the Brewers in the 21st round in 2010. Shackelford will be 26 on April 7th.
