Jose Abreu 2014 AL Rookie of the Year

Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox was named the 2014 American League Rookie of the Year after receiving all 30 first place votes by the Baseball Writers Association of America for a total of 150 points. Others receiving votes were Matt Shoemaker of the Angels with 40 points, Dellin Betances (Yankees, 27), Collin McHugh (Astros, 21), Masahiro Tanaka (Yankees, 16), Yordano Ventura (Royals, 9), Danny Santana (Twins, 3), Nick Castellanos (Tigers, 1), Brock Holt (Red Sox, 1), Jake Odorizzi (Rays, 1) and George Springer (Astros, 1).

The first baseman hit .317/.383/.581 with 36 HR, 107 RBI, 80 R, 3 SB in 145 games with the White Sox. He originally signed with the White Sox in October 2013 as a free agent out of Cuba. Abreu wll be 28 on January 29.
