Jacob deGrom of the New York Mets was named the 2014 National League Rookie of the Year after receiving 26 first place votes by the Baseball Writers Association of America for a total of 142 points. The only other player to receive first place votes was Billy Hamilton of the Reds with four first place votes and 92 total. Others receiving votes were Kolten Wong of the Cardinals with 14 points, Ken Giles (Phillies, 8), Ender Inciarte (Diamondbacks, 4), Joe Panik (Giants, 3), Travis d'Arnaud (Mets, 3), Jeurys Familia (Mets, 2), Kyle Hendricks (Cubs, 2) and Chase Anderson (Diamondbacks, 1).
The RHP split 2014 between Triple A Las Vegas and the Mets. He was 4-0, 2.58 ERA, 29 K, 1.28 WHIP in 38.1 IP over 7 games at Las Vegas and 9-6, 2.69 ERA, 144 K, 1.14 WHIP in 140.1 IP over 22 games with the Mets. He was originally drafted by the Mets in the ninth round in 2010. deGrom turned 26 on June 19.
