Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels was named the 2014 American League Most Valuable Player by the Baseball Writers Association of America. He received all 30 first place votes and 420 points total. The rest of the top five were Victor Martinez of the Tigers with 229 points, Michael Brantley (Indians, 191), Jose Abreu (White Sox, 145) and Robinson Cano (Mariners, 124).
Others receiving votes were Jose Bautista (Blue Jays, 122), Nelson Cruz (Orioles, 102), Josh Donaldson (Athletics, 96), Miguel Cabrera (Tigers, 82), Felix Hernandez (Mariners, 48), Corey Kluber (Indians, 45), Alex Gordon (Royals, 44), Jose Altuve (Astros, 41), Adam Jones (Orioles, 34), Adrian Beltre (Rangers, 22), Greg Holland (Royals, 13), Albert Pujols (Angels, 5), Howie Kendrick (Angels, 3), James Shields (Royals, 3) and Kyle Seager (Mariners, 1).
The outfielder hit .287/.377/.561 with 36 HR, 111 RBI, 115 R, 16 SB in 157 games. For his four season MLB career he has hit .305/.395/.549 with 98 HR, 307 RBI, 373 R, 102 SB in 493 games. He finished second in AL MVP voting in 2012 and 2013. He was originally drafted by the Angels with the 25th pick of the first round in 2009. Trout turned 23 on August 7th.
