Jonny Gomes traded to Royals

Jonny Gomes was traded by the Atlanta Braves to the Kansas City Royals on August 31, 2015. The Braves in exchange received Luis Valenzuela.

Gomes is an outfielder who hit .221/.325/.364 with 7 HR, 22 RBI, 27 R, 1 SB in 83 games with the Braves in 2015. Over 13 MLB seasons with the Braves, Athletics, Red Sox, Nationals, Reds and Rays/Devil Rays he hit .242/.334/.438 with 162 HR, 522 RBI, 493 R, 50 SB in 1191 games. He was originally drafted by the Devil Rays in the 18th round in 2001. Gomes will be 35 on November 22.

Valenzuela is a SS\2B\3B who had split 2015 between Rookie Idaho Falls and Class A Lexington. He hit .486/.472/.600 with 1 HR, 8 RBI, 9 R, 1 SB in 8 games at Idaho Falls and .333/.362/.475 with 3 HR, 15 RBI, 30 R, 8 SB in 48 games at Lexington. He originally signed with the Red Sox in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Valenzuela turned 22 on August 25.
