This was the third year of my Chasing 50-50 segment. It started two seasons ago as we followed Matt Kemp of the Dodgers in his self proclaimed attempt to hit 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases. The 2014 season is under way and we are going to follow Kemp's efforts to see if he can make another run. As long as he is playing Kemp will always be part of this. I'm also keeping Mike Trout of the Angels and Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies in the mix because I think they also have the speed\power combo capable of reaching the mark some day. Others will be added throughout the season as their production warrants. As of May 1st I am adding Gonzalez's Rockies teammate Charlie Blackmon, Brewers teammates Carlos Gomez and Ryan Braun and Brian Dozier of the Twins. As of July 3rd I am adding Todd Frazier of the Reds, Andrew McCutchen of the Pirates and George Springer of the Astros. Two whose season efforts warrant inclusion are teammates Ian Desmond and Anthony Rendon of the Nationals. Here are their final numbers for the 2014 season.
Matt Kemp
He started to show his pre-injury form after the All-Star break. He finished hitting .287/.346/.506 with 25 HR, 89 RBI, 77 R, 8 SB in 150 games.
Mike Trout
He ended up claiming his first MVP after finished second to Miguel Cabrera the previous two seasons. His MVP numbers were .287/.377/.561 with 36 HR, 111 RBI, 115 R, 16 SB in 157 games.
Carlos Gonzalez
He spent much of the later part of the season on the DL to hamper his efforts. He hit .238/.292/.431 with 11 HR, 38 RBI, 35 R, 3 SB in 70 games.
Charlie Blackmon
He cooled off from his torrid start but still almost entered the 20/20 club. He hit .288/.335/.440 with 19 HR, 72 RBI, 82 R, 28 SB in 154 games.
Carlos Gomez
He did have a break out season and did join the 20/20 club. He hit .284/.356/.477 with 23 HR, 73 RBI, 95 R, 34 SB in 148 games.
Ryan Braun
The tarnished former MVP started off hot but fell out of rhythm in the second half. He ended up hitting .266/.324/.453 with 19 HR, 81 RBI, 68 R, 11 SB in 135 games.
Brian Dozier
He put up most his power number in the first half but finished with enough to join the 20/20 club. He hit .242/.345/.416 with 23 HR, 71 RBI, 112 R, 21 SB in 156 games.
Todd Frazier
He was another that cooled off in the second half but still joined the 20/20 club. He hit .273/.336/.459 with 29 HR, 80 RBI, 88 R, 20 SB in 157 games.
Andrew McCutchen
His numbers fell off slightly from his MVP season last year as time on the DL kept him from having another year in the 20/20 club. He hit .314/.410/.542 with 25 HR, 83 RBI, 89 R, 18 SB in 146 games.
George Springer
He spent the second half of the season on the DL after putting up impressive numbers as a rookie. He hit .231/.336/.468 with 20 HR, 51 RBI, 45 R, 5 SB in 78 games.
Ian Desmond
He made the list in the 2013 final as well as he proves to be a regular in the 20/20 club. This season he hit .255/.313/.430 with 24 HR, 91 RBI, 73 R, 24 SB in 154 games.
Anthony Rendon
His sophomore campaign was a study in consistency as he put up similar number pre and post All Star break. This season he hit .287/.351/.473 with 21 HR, 83 RBI, 111 R, 17 SB in 153 games.

Ghost of 62 2014 final
The reference in the title is the 1962 Mets who are regarded as the worst of the Modern Era for all teams after 1900. The team finished 40-120 and 60.5 games back. For the season the team hit .240/.318/.361 and scored 617 runs which was 3.8 per game. The team ERA was 5.04 and they gave up 948 runs or 5.9 per game.
This was the second year of this series where each week I checked in on the MLB teams with the worst win-loss records and how they measured up to 1962. For the most part the worst of 2014 didn't sink to the depths some of the teams did in 2013. Here is how the final cellar dwellers of 2014 finished.

Finished at 71-91 and were 25.0 games back. The team hit .244/.316/.369 and scored 634 runs which was 3.9 per game. Thei team ERA was 4.01 and they gave up 715 runs or 4.4 per game.

Clayton Kershaw 2014 NL MVP
Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers was named the 2014 National League Most Valuable Player by the Baseball Writers Association of America. He garnered 18 first place votes and had 355 points total.
